Day Twelve – Grenada

We docked early morning in Saint George’s, Grenada’s capital. This cruise port is flanked by two forts, with colourful French Colonial style buildings. It is the perfect entrance to one of the Caribbean’s most scenic islands.

At the entrance to the pier we were welcomed by a steel band, playing a very familiar Cuban tune.

Having visited Grenada twice before, we decided to take a trolley ride around the island.

Only 12 miles by 21, Grenada is awash with waterfalls, mountain valleys, rainforests, lakes and volcanic craters. Our tour took us past the marina.

The beaches are to die for, especially Grand Anse, a two-mile stretch of pure white sand, just around the bay from Saint George’s.

The island is celebrating 50 years of independence and is a Commonwealth country, recognising King Charles III as King of Grenada. The Royal Grenada Police Force provides strong security on island, which is viewed as one of the safest within the Caribbean.

Grenada is also the island you can smell before see. It is known as the “Spice Island” as it grows more spices per square mile than anywhere else on the planet, nutmeg is its signature seasoning. One more shot of our ship, Arvia, as it sits majestically in port.

We’re off out for a beer and a curry at our Sindhu restaurant this evening. Next stop Saint Lucia tomorrow. Love to all, R&L xxx
